Where Were All of the Girls?

Last night I chatted with two older men (69 and 80) about their childhoods. Both gleefully described being out playing from morning 'till dinner time with friends or alone exploring the outdoors. They even referenced other's (Spike Lee) they'd read did the same. Then I brought up girls. Neither remembered seeing any girls (sisters, cousins) etc. out in the streets, in fields, on bikes, or on the adventures that their own memories were full of.

So, if you are a woman over 60, where and how did you spend your days during childhood? Indoors? Outdoors? Alone? With others? And how was it?
